Recycling Reminders
Recycling (blue bins):
Homeowners and renters using the blue recycling bins are trying to do the right thing. Nevertheless, we find lots of "mistakes" in the bins.
-
Items are to be loose and unbagged in the bins. There are to be no plastic bags, for any reason, in the bins.
-
Bottle caps cannot be recycled. Please rinse your glass and plastic bottles and remove the caps before tossing them into the bins. The wrapper around your case of water cannot be recycled either. Please toss it into the garbage.
-
There is to be no food waste (including fast food bags with leftover fries) in the recycle bins. Please toss those into the garbage.
-
Please flatten all the boxes you recycle, as a courtesy to your neighbors. Pieces need to be cut down to 3 feet by 3 feet, if they're bigger than that.
-
Clothing and household goods do not belong in or along side the recycle bins. Please donate them charitably so that others may use them.
-
Finally: NO garbage!!

Food Scrap Recycling is a Great Contribution You Can Make to Our Environment
Keeping food scraps out of our landfills is good for the planet! Everyone is welcome to use the green Food Scrap recycling bin located near the cabana. We don't have enough participants yet, to warrant additional bins, but that could happen with time. Please be aware, this bin is to be used for Food Scraps only. There are to be no plastic bags put in there. There are to be no food containers in there. Only paper bags or green compostable bags, such as those sold by Bio Bags. If you need a way to collect your scraps, Bartell's sells a very good, ventilated plastic bucket made by Bio Bags. When lined with the green bags they make, it does a very good job of containing any odors, and fits neatly under the kitchen sink. Costco has a very good price for boxes of 125 of the bags.
Here's a quick visual as to what you'll be able to recycle in the Food Waste bin. Food Waste Brochure 2012.
Please, as a courtesy to your neighbors, educate yourself about the requirements before you begin food recycling. No one wants to have to reach in and pull out plastic bags and other contaminants that others have tossed in there by mistake.
The Food Scrap bin is emptied on Fridays.
Dumpster Changes
Residents are doing such a good job recycling that we have removed one garbage dumpster from the middle of the property and have reduced the size of the remaining containers from 6-yard to 4-yard. By doing so, the Association will save $500 per month. Please remember: No cardboard boxes or styrofoam in the dumpsters. Take apart boxes and tuck them, flattened, next to the blue recycle totes. If larger than 3 feet by 3 feet, cut the pieces down to that size. Take block styrofoam out of boxes and take it to the bin by the cabana door.
